Living it out

Christian life is the most difficult thing to fake and very difficult one to live if we try in our own strength. Jesus Christ is the only one who can live that life because it is His life. We can only allow Him to live it out in and through us. When you accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord He comes to live in you. Then, to the extent you allow Him to be your Lord and Master, He will live His life in and through you. To the magnitude you submit to His Lordship He will use your body to demonstrate His characteristics of love, peace, patience, holiness, justice, righteousness, and so on.

The evidence of this new life is in the fruit it produces. This is called fruit of the Spirit because it is produced by the indwelling Spirit of Jesus Christ. “But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control….” (Gal.5:22-23 TLB) So, it is not a religious ritualistic self-effort, but a life of constant submission and willful obedience to the Lordship of Christ.

Jesus made it clear to the disciples when He compared a Christian’s relationship with Him to that of a vine and its branches.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (Jn.15:1-8 NIV)

Jesus expects His followers to be the salt of the earth and light of the world.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Mt.5:13-14 NLT)

A Christian’s life should influence others and add flavor to the community. Every Christian should bring blessings to fellow citizens through prayer, Godly conduct and helpful deeds. Thus they should bear witness to the grace and glory of God.

God who is worthy of all praise!

Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.

Bless our God, O peoples; let the sound of his praise be heard

(Ps. 66:1-4, 8)

Praise Him for who He is
The entire earth is invited to offer their praise to the God of the Bible, for He is the Almighty. His enemies would surrender in fear because they have seen His power. How do we praise this awesome God?

We do it by expressing our joy in His presence. Telling Him how awesome He is, how much we appreciate His greatness. This means, we are acknowledging openly that He is the Almighty God and He is our God. Several Psalms exhort us to verbally express our joy in His being the Almighty God. We are to shout for joy or make a joyful sound (Ps. 95:1), cheering for Him or singing for Him. We must do it in such a way that it brings Him glory and honor in the midst of others.

Praise Him for what He does
The whole human race is invited to witness His mighty deeds. In fact His deeds are evident to all those who are open and honest. The classic example of His glorious deeds is the history of His people Israel. Two similar incidents are reminded here, the parting of the Red Sea (Ex. 14:21) and the drying up of the Jordan river (Josh. 3:14-17). These were reasons for great rejoicing among His people. He protected them from all the rebellious enemy nations who exalted themselves. His eyes still keep a watch over the nations of the world to see that His people are protected.

How to praise God
We are to do it by exalting His name doing it in such a way that it will be heard by the people around (66:8). This is because He has kept the remnant of His people safe from being utterly destroyed. Due to their disobedience the people of Israel had gone through trials and captivity, hard labor and slavery, fire and water. However, their descendants could enter the land of abundance. They are still a people and now once again restored as a nation.

Go into His presence consciously and offer Him praise, the sacrifice of our lips. Fulfill any vows made before Him. As a testimony proclaim to others all that God has done for you.
Remember, in any prayer we make or praise we offer, our hearts must be clean lest it will not be acceptable to Him.
