Spirit of Antichrist

“He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters.” (Lk.11:23)

Jesus and Demons

Demons and evil spirits recognized Jesus as God and trembled. They had to leave the people they had possessed at His command. Jesus said He came to save while the enemy comes to destroy. However, the enemy always comes with alluring options.

Jesus alone can exercise authority over the demonic powers. He declared the war against sin and Satan; announcing the arrival of God’s rule over the lives of people. Later, He thoroughly defeated Satan at His death on the cross. No man can defeat the devil in his strength. Those who have Jesus living in them can resist the devil in the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember, in chapter 10 Jesus sent His followers to demonstrate the power of His kingdom, giving them authority over sicknesses and demons. Disciples discovered that “the One who is in them is greater than the one who is in the world” (1Jn.4:4)

“This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1John 4:2-4)

People and Demons

People doubted the authority of Jesus, some even questioned it openly. Jesus made it clear that He is stronger than the prince of this world and He is there to conquer. He also spelled it out that there is no middle ground when called for a personal decision about Jesus. You are either for Him or against Him, you are either with Him or without Him. There is no neutral position. Those who are not on His side are on His enemy’s side. Those who are without the Spirit of Christ are subject to the spirit of Antichrist.
