God’s Plan of Redemption (Josh.2)

The men said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. If anyone goes outside your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head; we will not be responsible. (Josh.2:17-19)

The Blood Atonement

Jesus paid for the sins of the world by His own sinless blood. This is an all sufficient, one time sacrifice that atoned for the sins of the entire human race.

“In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb.9:22).

The scarlet thread which would save all those who took refuge in the house identified by it was a foreshadow of the cross of Christ. There is only one place a sinner can find refuge from the wrath of God-the cross of Jesus Christ.

The Ultimate Choice

Like those who wouldn’t take shelter under that house marked with the scarlet thread were responsible for their own destruction, those who wouldn’t trust Jesus as their Savior would be responsible for their judgment. Those who fall under God’s wrath are falling voluntarily as they refused the choice that was placed before them. They themselves are to be blamed for their damnation.

The blood of Jesus can cleanse even the dirtiest sinner and make him a saint, a partaker of the riches of God. Turning down this offer would be the fatal error anyone can make.
